On July 28, 2023, Just the Beginning (JTB) concluded its 12th annual D.C. Summer Legal Institute, a five-day legal immersion program that had 64 high school student enrollees from across the country. JTB is a pipeline organization that encourages students of color and from other underrepresented groups to pursue career and leadership opportunities in the law. JD Howlette Law had the privilege of sponsoring and overseeing the final day of program, which consisted of mock oral arguments.
For the mock oral arguments, the students were assigned a First Amendment issue to review, analyze, and argue before the "Supreme Court." Our team acted as Justices for the students, giving them a practical sense of what it would be like to be in the court room. After the mock session, we had an engaging Q&A session, offering insights into the path to law school and the legal profession.
The dedication, passion, and hard work of these young minds was truly inspiring and gives us hope for the next generation of lawyers.
